Practicing “Patience” in the Flow

Patience

It has been a while since my last post.  I have been practicing “patience“, while waiting for this post to arise from the ethers.  Obviously, this post is about practicing “patience” and how this supports our “flow” processes.

Discovering and unfolding your own unique destiny is an ongoing journey that takes time and patience.  This destiny unfolds during a human life as a sort of dance – ebbing and flowing in unexplained and often unforeseen ways.  During daily life, we are typically experiencing a series of moments ranging from: performing daily repetitious acts, to dealing with life’s challenges, to unexpected and sometimes traumatic changes, to the more pleasurable, exciting, and fun times.  Sometimes our dreams come true, and sometimes they don’t.  Sometimes we reach our desired goals, and other times we don’t.  We can reach for the stars, but we don’t always get them.  Plus, things almost always take longer to transpire than ever imagined.  Hence, we need to learn to practice patience.

I can’t tell you how many times I have participated in or listened in on conversations of spiritual people, analyzing how they need to “be a certain way”, or “take certain actions” to manifest a desired life result.   They feel that if they can get excited enough, visualize things just right, and/or tap on some body part hundreds of times, or say thousands of affirmations that they can make whatever they want to happen, and quickly.  I am speaking from experience here, for I listened to all of the CD’s, did all of the visualizations, affirmated like crazy, tapped my poor self to death, took daily actions towards my goals, and got so excited about particular desired results that I am surprised  I did not pop!  Sometimes my goals and dreams would come about while other times – NOTTA!  What was the difference?  Nothing .  Absolutely nothing.   I was following the same process each time.

So, what is wrong with this picture?  If you are operating from the “you are the sole creator of  EVERYTHING in your life” paradigm, then you think you can manifest any destiny you want.  Therefore, when things don’t go your way, you automatically start to judge yourself and tell yourself that you are doing something wrong.  Maybe you just are not visualizing enough or being positive enough, or something enough?  This can be a very painful loop to be stuck in, and even though self-awareness and evaluation can be very helpful at times, to help you readjust your course of actions, it can also just as easily turn into a platform for self-judgment and abuse.  That just is not helpful or necessary.

I have found that the causes and conditions that need to come together for particular situations to manifest  take time, and I therefore need to practice patience, and more patience.  Before a certain outcome can manifest, many things may have to happen first, like:

  1. I need to start taking certain daily actions first to build a sound foundation, or
  2. I may need to let go of things that are holding me back, before anything can happen, or
  3. I need to personally grow/evolve to gain the knowledge or confidence needed to open up to my destiny, or
  4. My destiny is meant to unfold in a different direction than I had thought, or
  5. Some combination therein.

The human ego-mind wants to believe that he or she can be or do whatever he or she wants, and in short order.  It thinks it knows best what is good for you.  Wrong.  Your destiny unfolds in a very mysterious way that you REALLY cannot understand.  The complexity of how your destiny unfolds is beyond your ego-mind’s comprehension.   So, stop trying to figure it out.  Instead, surrender to the “flow”, take regular inspired actions, and be patient.  Eventually, after a lot of learning, self-growth, sharp curves and u-turns, your destiny’s path will become clearer and clearer.  The truth is you are already on this path, you just don’t realize it yet.

If you are like many people, you may be white-knuckling it, trying to force or control a certain destiny.  Try to let go of the need to be in control.  Be patient and trust that everything is unfolding in a natural order.  Also be open and flexible to your destiny unfolding in ways you never even imagined. Instead of trying to force or control a certain destiny, open up to and allow your destiny to show itself to you.  It can actually be a fun and exciting process of watching it unfold.

When you feel you are getting bogged down by confusion, fear, or impatience about your future, take a few deep breaths, let go, and remind yourself that you are now practicing PATIENCE.

I would love to hear your concepts/stories/ideas around patience with life goals.
